80’s Hairstyle for Women

The slogan for hair in the eighties decade was BIG. The hairstyles of women in the 1980’s were highly shaped by a variety of vogues, that involved the major musical culture, primetime dramas, and power suits. Most of the hairstyles at this time mainly focused the size and volume. All had big hair. People with short hair also had big hair. The 80’s are known for the amazing variety of voluminous hairstyles that women of that decade had, though long hair have always been famous and in vogue but this decade was mainly knows for the long hair only. Hair were often brushed forward and stranded for making a popular style called the bob cut.

Other popular hairstyle at the time depicted the complete, fashion of romance seen on famous soap’s such as “Knots Landing” and “Dallas” and the afro perm was wore by both the genders of white. People imitated their pop stars that they admired –Madonna, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and many more. Admirers of pop like The Cure and Siouxie Sioux went for the black dye and hairspray to make an appearance like a black mop that hung in their eyes. Same ways the admirers and followers of the eccentric Cyndi Lauper tried their hands on the bright orange dye and they even tried curling their bangs. Hair of medium or long length that was naturally curly stayed in the fashion. Features of such styles of hair are still found in most of today’s famous looks, including high-volume waves, romantic curls, and asymmetrical cuts. The 80’s was the time when Bigger is better was the terminology used. Even if you did not have enough hair to wear big hair, you found a way.

80’s Hairstyle for Men

The 1980’s saw a dramatic upswing in truly eccentric hair styles, which were all about declaring independence. The 80’s were all about excess, and that certainly applied to the hairstyles and it meant big. Big hair with nature curls was sported.

The complete fresh arrays of products can be found in the market now- mousses, waxes, and gels and the crowd was not at all afraid to try their hands on the products and experiment! That resulted into different type of craziest and funkiest style with a stress on the volume. One of the most popular styling methods was crimping the hair, fringes were puffy and thick, and accessories depended on your taste.

Full, shaggy or shorter styles – in 80’s hairstyles remained longer than many styles in previous decades, but they weren’t all long hair styles. Some of the famous celebrities popularized hairstyles of the short length in 80’s. These short length hairstyles hides the top of the ears on the side making it hung low to the collar in back. The layering and fullness made hair sway no matter they are straight or curly. Prime examples of the shorter 80’s styles can be found in the films – “St. Elmo’s Fire”, and “Pretty In Pink” as well as with George Michael.

Also, the Jheri curl, sported by late Michael Jackson was one such 80’s hairstyle. This curly look was very much in vogue and most Afro Americans did this with great élan. Here, the wet hair look was found to be really appealing and MJ had something similar to the Jheri curl in one of his videos.
