90′s Hairstyles90′s Hairstyles for Women
Ladies wanted their hair to be ready but rough, curly but straight, smooth and shiny falling till the chin but should be of the length of the shoulder; blonde but golden brown and then they would get their People Magazine out and tell the picture of Jennifer Aniston to their hair stylist.
Millions of ladies went to the hair salons in the mid-90s who wanted to imitate the “Rachel Cut”. This cut was actually named after the character played by Jennifer Aniston in the series of the famous TV show called Friends.

This show was one of the most highly watched TV shows around the world that time. This trademark 90’s hairstyle was a sleek and layered style, shoulder-length, with highlights mainly around the face and grown out fringe.
The hairstyles of the 90s weren’t as big as the intense styles of the 80s. By god’s mercy, the 1980s finished, and with the end of this decade ended the over utilization of the hair styling products and funny, pumped-up hair. Natural was the key fashion theory of the decade from the starting to the mid-nineties, introducing the carefree, wash-and-wear hair style. The order of the day was basic ponytails and messy updos. Though there also existed long hair, but they were often left flowing and loose – reminding of the trend in the 70’s.
Women of the decade 90 was too busy for the fussy hairstyles, so they never cared for the hairstyle rather they kept occupied making a name for themselves in academia, politics and business, managing the role of mother and wife altogether.
The Rachel was a major hairstyle in this decade. This style of hair was named after the character of Jennifer Aniston in the TV show friends. Another major hairstyle that cropped in 90’s was ‘The Bedhead’, which was a layered crop pioneered and tousled style by actress Meg Ryan. Both styles were easily maintained and therefore, truly popular.
90′s Hairstyles for Men
Boys in the decade of 90 were free to select length and hairstyle which suited them. Boys had a distinctive trend to follow of their own. The styles were daring and extreme, big bleached with Nike ticks and zig zags shaved onto their head which was inspired by their favorite artists, mainly Hip Hop artists.
Different styles in 90s were far distant from the heavily-styled, bouffant, big look that was liked in the 80s, to the natural look. The styles of hair varied in whole of the decade.
For most boys on the street, the style was what was followed by Edward Furlong, Joey of Friends, and Dawson of Dawson’s Creek, pre voice breaking in Terminator 2 and Keanu Reeves of… almost every movie of the 90’s! Boys from the teens in the 90s might use longer time dressing in front of the dressing table. 1990s Emo hairstyles were occasionally spiky and shaggy for sure, so use sculpting gel to take complete advantage.
The look was exploited to attract girls more than to make a statement has it had its own charm in the female fraternity.
To make spikes it was a good idea to find the gel that could hold your spikes longer. Using a gel is simple; simply apply the gel in hair when wet to make it spiky or shaggy.
